Massage Therapy in its many forms addresses a variety of health conditions, the most prevalent being stress-related tension. Massage has proven to be beneficial in treating sleep disorders, high blood pressure, diabetes, lower back pain, immunity suppression, spinal cord injury, autism, post-operative care, age-related disorders, infertility, eating disorders, smoking cessation, and depression, as well as many other physiological benefits.

Swedish Massage

The goal of Swedish Massage is to relax the entire body, and this is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long, gliding, flowing strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. Lotion is often used to reduce friction and stimulate the skin.

Swedish Massage is exceptional for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, and improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension and increasing relaxation.

Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy Massage includes highly concentrated plant oils called essential oils added to massage oil or lotion. Essential oils have many soothing therapeutic effects when inhaled and also when absorbed into the skin. Each essential oil has different healing properties. They can be used for calming, uplifting, energizing, cleansing, and decongesting. Aromatherapy helps relieve stress, insomnia, headaches, digestive disorders, premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and back pain.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is similar to Swedish Massage, however it is used to target knots and release chronic muscle tension. Other benefits include reducing inflammation and helping to eliminate scar tissue. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissues, tendons, and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones, and joints.

Deep Tissue Massage also helps to decrease chronic muscle pain. It is a large part of injury rehabilitation and reduces inflammation-related pain caused by arthritis and tendonitis. It is generally integrated with other massage techniques.

Deep Tissue Massage incorporates more intense movements and techniques, such as deep finger pressure, which may be slightly uncomfortable and cause soreness that lasts a couple of days before resulting in the desired relaxation and pain relief.

Trigger Point Therapy

A Trigger Point is a tight area within muscle tissue that causes pain either at that location or radiates to other areas of the body.

Trigger Point work is specifically designed to alleviate the source of the pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release. In this type of massage, the recipient actively participates through deep breathing as well as identifying the exact location and intensity of the discomfort. The result of Trigger Point Massage is to eliminate toxins in the muscle and release energizing endorphins.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is geared towards athletes of every kind, from world-class professionals to weekend joggers. The particulars of the massage are specific to the athlete’s sport of choice and are often focused on a particular troublesome area like a knee or shoulder.

Aspects of Sports Massage are gaining popularity as useful components in a balanced training regimen. Sports Massage can be used as a means to enhance pre-event preparation and reduce recovery time for maximum performance during training or after an event. Athletes have discovered that specially designed massage promotes flexibility, removes fatigue, improves endurance, helps prevent injuries, and prepares them to compete at their absolute best.

Pre-natal Massage

Massage during pregnancy offers many physical benefits. Massage offers a healthy way to reduce stress and promote well-being. The Massage Therapist works to relieve the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy, such as backaches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches, joint pain, and edema. In addition, by relaxing nervous tension you can experience a better night’s sleep.

Throughout each session, our therapists will use a special body support cushion to ensure comfort and proper positioning.

Geriatric Massage

Geriatric massage encompasses basic relaxation and stress relief. It’s also a beneficial tool in fighting many of the symptoms of aging. Today, massage in all its forms is at the forefront of alternative and complementary therapies utilized by millions of people.

Geriatric Massage will help increase blood circulation, combat depression, improve balance and flexibility, reduce the pain of arthritis, increase joint mobility, improve posture, and encourage overall well-being.

Chair Massage

Chair Massage lets you relax and rejuvenate when you only have a few minutes to spare.

Corporate Chair Massage studies show massage in the workplace increases productivity and employee morale, lowers the incidence of illness, and decreases absenteeism. It helps increase workplace awareness, interest, and participation.

Breathe new life into any event, fundraiser, or party with the simple addition of a Chair Massage.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a branch of massage that focuses solely on the hands and feet.  Originally developed as “zone therapy” in the early twentieth century, reflexology uses specifically targeted points on the extremities to send signals to the brain and balance the nervous system.

Stretching and moving the hands and feet, applying pressure on reflex areas that correspond to specific organs and other parts of the body.  Endorphins are released throughout the entire body, reducing stress and returning the body to equilibrium.  Reflexology has been known to provide relief from ailments such as tension headaches, arthritis, digestive issues and back pain.

Hot Stone Therapy

Hot Stone Therapy melts away tension, eases muscle stiffness, and increases circulation and metabolism. Each Hot Stone session features the placement of smooth, water-heated stones at key points on the body to allow for deeper relaxation of the muscles. Hot Stone Therapy is ideal for:

  • Muscular aches
  • Back pain
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Poor circulation
  • Rheumatic and arthritic conditions
  • Fibromyalgia

Hot Stone Therapy is gaining popularity for its ability to provide deeper muscle and tissue relaxation, which in turn releases more toxins and improves circulation. The benefits of Hot Stone Therapy have even been used in the treatment of insomnia and depression.

Shiatsu/Acupressure

Shiatsu naturally balances the body's energy by stretching, range of motion and accupressure. Shiatsu is preformed on a mat on the floor wearing loose fitting clothing. The practitioner uses their body weight to press their fingers, thumbs, palms, elbows knees and feet along acupuncture or acupressure points.

Shiatsu Massage intends not to heal a disease but to allow the body to heal naturally by creating a state of balance and well-being through unblocking chi. This therapy is primarily beneficial for emotional problems, common digestive disorders, hormonal imbalances, musculo-skeletal problems, and respiratory issues. It can also be used to help the body deal with the side effects of chemotherapy and prescription medications. The following are all conditions that can benefit from shiatsu:

  • Stress and anxiety
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Joint pain and stiffness, arthritis
  • Back and neck pain
  • Muscle tension
  • Symptoms of PMS
  • Symptoms of pregnancy
  • Symptoms of menopause
  • Constipation
  • Acid reflux
  • Nausea
  • Bronchitis
  • Sinusitis
  • Asthma

Cupping Massage

Cupping is a massage modality that finds its roots in traditional Chinese medicine. The practice uses glass cups to create a vacuum seal on areas of the body. The suction created by this seal brings blood to the surface of the skin and is thought to help expel negative energies from the body. Although cupping is not painful, the recipient commonly walks away with circular bruises on the areas where the cups were applied.

In traditional Chinese medicine, cupping is used to improve the energy flow throughout the body. The bruises caused by the procedure are thought to be the negative energy elements coming to the surface and exiting the body. The cups can be placed over the traditional energy collection points, which are also stimulated during acupuncture and shiatsu massage. A healthy energy flow is thought to improve both the physical and mental well-being of the client.
